Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. One day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba, in a uniform he has never seen before, collapsed on the school campus. This encounter changes his destiny completely. She tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually two — the world where magicians live and the world where humans live.

Before World War II, the automobile industry in developed countries in Europe and the United States possessed formidable technological capabilities. The NPS (Nationai Police Safetyrescue) was formed to combat extreme crimes like terrorism, which is beyond the scope of the ordinary police force. Their purpose is to catch criminals alive. The elite members in the police organization formed NPS to strengthen the authority of SAT (Special Assault Team). When the NPS cannot solve a crime then they send in SAT. When SAT succeeds their authority strengthens. Ichigo (Osamu Mukai) is a member of NPS. He is a former boxer, but became a police officer at the age of 23. In his second year as a police officer, he was scouted by the NPS. His strength is hand to hand combat at close range. He is also blunt with strangers. Iori (Gou Ayano) is a member of SAT. He is the best shooter in the group and possesses a calm and steady personality. Ichigo and Iori, with their different personalities, find themselves having constant conflicts.

Shirakawa Jiro is a genius author. At the age of 15, his novel won the top prize. He has written 99 mystery novels as a trick genius since then. Shirakawa is tackling what would be his milestone 100th novel, but he has not been able to write anything and this has gone on for more than three months. Aonuma Kiryu is a genius interviewer who is able to get people to loosen their tongues. Shirakawa who takes pleasure in being a fake, has become the transforming interviewer Aonuma Kiryu in order to listen to what people say. He has no interest in the truth but seeks a real case which he had found through the internet as subject matter for his 100th novel. It is the unsolved Tulip Murders in which the grotesque abandoned corpses of two housewives were followed by yet another murder one year later. Together with a pretty editor, Shirakawa heads to the town where the cases occurred. As Aonuma, he gets close to the hidden truth with his formidable powers of deduction.

Nobuto Natsume worked at a youth detention center, but began working as a detective after the age of forty. He begins his new career as a detective in the violent crimes section at Higashi-Ikebukuro Police Station. He listens carefully to those involved in cases and investigates thoroughly to uncover the truth. Veteran Detective Seiichi Fukumori works as Nobuto Natsume's partner. Rookie Detective Mayo Seike (Ayame Gouriki) is excellent with her job and also a bit naive. She conducts an internal investigation on Detective Keita Kurokouchi, but they become partners and work on cases together..

Yamagishi Hoshimi, an only child, lost her father at an young age and was raised only by her mother, who works as a temporary worker at a large company. Her boss Komatsubara Mugitaro supports her a lot with her goal to become a regular employee soon. Mugitaro's wife Hishiko believes that her husband is having an affair with his subordinate Hoshimi due to his high interest in her and decides to meet her personally. At this moment, Hoshimi and Hishiko collide and happen to swap bodies. After the first confusion, they decide to continue to live the lives of each other for the moment. Mugitaro doesn't know about this strange occurrence and is more than bewildered about the completely different reactions from his "girlfriend" and his wife.

But as suddenly as they started arriving, the books stop coming, and Jun gets a notice that says that the books have ceased being published. With an incomplete doll in hand, and a message from his other self in another world, this Jun also finds his way into the world of the Rozen Maidens.

Domoto Tsuyoshi plays the lead character Tenma who has inherited the power to get into contact with spirits but is afraid of his ability to do that. Out of no choice, he has to take on the position of the president of an exorcism company. Kawaguchi Haruna and Minagawa Sarutoki will be Tenma's assistants in his "ghost-busting" missions. Serina will play an elder woman in the neighbourhood who chases Tenma around while Sato Jiro plays Tenma's late father who communicates with Tenma through his dreams.

In the world of Kabuki, where family social standings are highly valued, Kyonosuke Kawamura is inept even though he is born as the son of a duke of a famous household.
